George Walker Bush was known to many Filipinos as a former United States President, one of the most powerful and successful countries in the world. Little that we know that he was also a Lieutenant in his military service, a Congressman, an ambassador, and the 11th Director of Central Intelligence. He is the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 and the 46th Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000.

Unfortunately, last November 30, 2018, he passed away at the age of 94 leaving not just his family in sorrow but all of the people who had loved him and who had been inspired by his legacy. Recently, the news about the late George W. Bush surfaced as he sponsored a Filipino child in school for a decade. They actually had close communication as they are exchanging letters with each other.

The letter was addressed to a Filipino child named Timothy. A non-profit organization known as the Compassion International had announced that the former US President sponsored a child secretly. The said organization helps deserving students in the community through the help of the church and George W. Bush willingly gave help to this child named Timothy.

It all started when he attended a Christmas concert last 2001 in Washington. Mr. Wess Stafford, the former President of the organization said that during the intermission they would tell the audience about them and would ask if they wanted to sponsor a child and with all sincerity and generosity Mr. Bush who was seated at the back raised his hand and asked for a pamphlet. His top security also revealed that the former President does not want Timothy to know about him sponsoring the child that is why he introduced himself as George Walker.

They also have sweet and spirited letters according to Mr. Stafford. Though Timothy is also unknown to many, it was very inspiring to witness and discover such act of kindness of a powerful, intelligent, and popular man to a Filipino child.

In his first in-depth interview since Donald Trump’s inauguration, former President George W. Bush gave his take on the current commander in chief’s first month in office, addressing Trump’s attack on the media, his controversial immigration policy, and the Russian hacking scandal. Bush also returned to the show to discuss his new book, “Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors,” a collection of portraits of some of the military veterans he has met.
